It has been 10 years since the training trip in Wales and I still remember how embarrassed I was to be around the American male coaches as they were sexually harassing women verbally in the streets of Caerphilly, even in front of Nikki and Neal Adams and their children. So yes, I have been hesitant to participate in Judo again for many years and although I think about it everyday, it is a part of my heart and my mind, I know it will look very different for me and my family. I will have much more women around me and I will never tolerate the disgusting behavior I felt powerless to address back then. I am older and wiser and I have learned how to Value myself and my time. And I have learned to see the honor in protecting your community and the children that will continue to model behavior they see.
Joellen Friesner (proud and loud)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2192186541955038172.post-77217351593892810882017-10-24T10:10:15.005-07:002017-10-24T10:10:15.005-07:00Bravo.

She told him to stop. She also made it _very_ clear to him that she was keeping an eye on him at work. After a couple of months of this, he found a job elsewhere.

I think, based on an insufficient sample, that it's often the follow-up that matters. In the same institution (but very different department), a man is harassing a female co-worker after she complained about his comments about her looks to HR. His harassment has been careful to stay within company rules, e.g. taking the time to review and publicly find fault with her work and no-one else's. HR had one meeting with the man and one meeting with the woman, but otherwise not initiated any follow-up or supervision.

Draypresct.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2192186541955038172.post-23194253073017737192017-10-20T08:41:16.950-07:002017-10-20T08:41:16.950-07:00Well said.
