I miss her terribly, and I apologize for posting this on your blog, it's obviously a desperate move from my part. Thank you and many, many more blessings to you and your family!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01582780869808374583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2192186541955038172.post-53828188355813337222016-04-06T20:47:04.740-07:002016-04-06T20:47:04.740-07:00How very inspirational! Your perspective is so refreshing, I so wish more kids would understand the essence of what your getting at here (adults also, but especially the kids). These days many youngsters have a relationship to the world...often dictated by parents, that is so peurile and manufactured. They volunteer at the right places, take the right classes, never pausing for a moment to consider how unique an authentic challenge is to the human condition.

Ironickly, many of the top, goal oriented institutions in society recognize the cold, hard truth about what you are saying: In the military when one is going in, they ask how much education you have...they do not care WHAT college, or High school you went to, they simply want to know what level you can learn, be taught at, and how motivated you are as a subject.

I have done combat intensive martial arts for over 40 years now, and while it never fit my personality, and was often impractical (stitches, broken fingers...), the self development of the training, the challenges gave me a strong personality. The training also enabled me to deal with the often exasperating practical character of the world we live in, allowing me to function in a world I would have had problems with otherwise.

We need the capacity to do things that take us in a direction that is not always what a resume calls for... to learn to apply ourselves with effort to something that takes us out of our comfort zone and challenges our sense of what we will and won't do. My Karate teacher had a great saying related to this very quandry: "Most people operate on the level of why they will do the things they do. I operate on the level of why people will not do the things they won't do." dsimon3387https://www.blogger.com/profile/08246152566523515047noreply@blogger.com
