Deja Vu All Over Again: Ronda Armbars

There has been some discussion lately whether Ronda uses judo in her mixed martial arts matches. Yes, stupid, I know. Coincidentally, I had lunch today with USJF archivist, Jerry Hays, who gave me a flash drive with photos that also included a few videos. One of those videos happened to be the finals of the 2008 Olympic Trials. Look familiar?

I think the only reason people argue about whether she uses Judo or not is because they've been brainwashed into believing that there is no groundwork in Judo or that all submissions come from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have spoken to many people, unfortunately, who believe one or both of those.

The truth is that there are many people In judo who have terrible mat work but it is also true that the people who are good are often very very good

Actually, it's probably due to UFC announcer Joe Rogan using the term "Jiu-Jitsu" to the point were it is more of a generic for matwork or groundwork. It's the same way people think of body armor as Kevlar even though Kevlar is a trademark of a specific product.
