Crowd-sourcing and Ronda Rousey Logo

Crowd-sourcing: It sounds so much better and more professional than "Asking random people on the Internet"

We're into crowd-sourcing these days. First, there was the computer game to teach math we are doing that raised $1,500 on Kickstarter the first day. (Go check it out, it's awesome, we've got 19 days and $18,500 to go).

Since that was doing well, we decided to try crowd-sourcing the new Ronda Rousey logo. You might have heard that Ronda has a title fight coming up so she is kind of having her life consist of train-train-train-eat-train-sleep.

You might also remember Justin Flores, who was on a couple of world teams for judo, won the U.S. Open, stuff like that. After Justin retired from competition, he finished his degree in art and co-founded a design company.

Here is his first crack at five different possible choices for the Ronda Rousey logo. Please give your opinion on which you like best or whether you think a different direction would be better. Be honest! I know Justin and he has a lot more art in him.

They are beautiful! My favorite is the second set. Especially the one with the print and then the small script. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uhbRUwDCKKM/URXFkAw7SUI/AAAAAAAAB3Q/3Ix6xzKRc1I/s1600/logo1and2.jpg

The majority of fans are blokes, I think something more unisex or two differet types.

Great work from Justin. I hate judging good logos, because it's always subjective. Both styles of design (the first three, and last two) will be instantly recognizable. If I was shopping for a shirt, gi patch, etc, I would get the last logo. It's a unique and cool look.

I like the last design the best, personally.

DEFINITELY the last one. As a female TKD black belt/kickboxer, I never understand why almost all clothing and equipment for female fighters is pink. I mean, I don't mind pink as a color, but I think of myself as a fighter first, and a girl second.

Gene LeBell likes pink and he's a guy.

I'm reserving my opinion because I don't want to bias anything

I like the last one the best, although they are all great!

"Gene LeBell likes pink and he's a guy"

I hope that's in response to "pegson"'s comment, not mine. I never meant that guys wouldn't like something pink. It's just that pink for girls is rather stereotypical, and seems to be forced upon female athletes in our limited choices of clothing and equipment. I've never been your "typical girl", and I'll go out on a limb and say the same is true of Ronda!

75% that must eat you alive, eat you alive. @TaekwonTrinity

I thin the first Ronda Rousey shirt using the glove in front of the face from the SF was really good. It was wearable by everyone. I still wear that shirt.

If I had to pick one logo to work off.

I would choose the 2nd logo from the link to build off.

I prefer the clean Look to the wording Ronda Rousey, followed by the Signature in cursive in the bottom right.

Girls and pink -
I hate pink.
My granddaughter loves pink.
I believe Ronda is agnostic on the subject of pink.

I like the first set. Having it pulled together with a black belt is a nice way of honoring her foundations in judo.

I really like the last two. They carry the eye across the whole design nicely. I also enjoy the introduction of the belt. Very creative.

One thing I'd like to point out about the first two images is that the double Rs are identical to the "Rockstar" energy drink logo. Great idea, but it's already kinda sorta been done.

If I had to pick one it would be the top one. I like how the belt strings complete the letters. But I have to say, and I say this as admittedly a person with no graphic design skills whatsoever, but as a fan/consumer/observer however you see us, anytime I see a logo that's using a mirrored image look of a letter, as is done here with the 2 "R"s, I think to myself that it's an unoriginal copy of some old hippie band logo. Or something you'd see in neon signs back when they were all the rage & people thought that was high-tech.

The first&last one.

What's the intended message? Who is the audience?

To be honest, most of these logos would be good for "Ronda Rousey, wedding planner". For a fighter, I just don't see it.

Go on google images and search for "Fighter logo" or similar keywords. Not that you should plagarize any, but they all have a different feel to it, convey a different emotion, and most can instantly be recognized as fighting related or "bad ass".

Pink with cursives just doesn't communicate what she does or her identity as a fighter.

As a suggestion, work a stylized armbar in the logo, instead of a belt that looks like a ribbon.

These are amazing, nice variation you shared with us. I think logo in pink color is more attractive than other logo designs.

Am I the only one that looks at the first one and sees a massive bust, tiny waist and what in some parts would be considered good broad child bearing hips? Its just that the belt suggests a waist and...

I'll shut up now...

I was gonna say, Hate that freakin' pink! When people ask my to buy a pink ribbon, I say I eat vegetables, I don't need to fund the white coats....BUUUT, then you said GENE likes pink. If he likes pink, ... hmmmm... could be a counter-demo to the aforementioned pink... I think a reference to ARMS is warranted, noting that Ronda's style could change and evolve, and she could add a logo at that point.... and agree w/ ix-nay on the edding-planner-way and barbie waist ref.... Keep goin, Justin! Job security! peace owt!!!

Yeah, and the swirley, rounded style is too, uh.... Nice!
Ronda is a beast! She's bad-ass! We need a meaner, non-pastel logo, fa shizzle. Thanks for axing...
